I was born and raised in Liverpool in the UK. I come from a working-class background, and this has, in many respects, shaped the person I am today. My wife and I moved to Australia in 1983 and have called Perth our home since then. We have 3 children all of whom are excelling in their very different careers.
I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982. My entire professional career was spent with PwC which I joined in 1979 straight from university. I spent 34 years with PwC, 24 years as an audit partner as well as various management roles, including Managing Partner of PwC Perth. I retired in 2013 and since that time have taken on several non-executive director roles. I am a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
My interest in the not-for-profit sector comes from a desire to help others who find themselves, their families, and their communities in positions of disadvantage. I use the skills I have in finance and strategy to help position Richmond Wellbeing to deliver the services that are so critically needed. Beyond that, I draw on the “human” experiences of previously being a non-executive director at both Anglicare WA and a global organisation supporting women and their families on their journey out of poverty, in my role at Richmond Wellbeing.
