Hi everyone – here is what’s been happening at the network since our last newsletter.
We are going to hear a little from Julie Bairstow who is a new employee to the network after being an active volunteer for us for the past couple of years and is doing a fantastic job.
We also have the lovely Beck who is doing a 12 month placement with us whilst she completes her cert IV in Peer Work. You can hear how things are going for Beck in the next edition.
The HVNWA team were excited to have a stand at the ‘Power of Peer Work’ forum in April brought to us by Palmerston. We met with many professionals, consumers and peer workers all working together to recognise the value of Peer Support workers in the workforce, it was a hugely successful day. Corina and myself were also honoured to be invited to present on the Hearing Voices Approach at Challenger TAFE in Mandurah to the Cert IV Community Service students, it’s really encouraging to know that more workers will be equipped with Hearing Voices knowledge in the community.
As reported in one of our previous newsletters the team have been going into Graylands hospital on a monthly basis giving information sessions around Hearing Voices and how the network can offer support, well the team at Graylands and ourselves have agreed that after a fantastic response we are now going to commence holding a Hearing Voices group in the hospital starting next month. This is a huge achievement for us as it has taken a great deal of time to take the approach into the hospital; so taking it to the next level is extremely exciting for all involved.
Finally I just want to give a huge shout out to our fantastic Peer Support Worker Corina who was a recipient of the last quarter’s HOPE awards! Well done Corina, well deserved we couldn’t be more proud.
Well that’s all from me for this edition, as always if you would like any information regarding anything to do with peer support, groups, training or general any information about the network please feel free to give us a call groups and one on: 9350 8800
Warm regards Jacqui Day
