The Board and staff of Richmond Wellbeing is saddened by the passing of John Casson AM, our co-founder, long serving board member and Patron, who dedicated much of his life to supporting those experiencing mental distress.
John was not only instrumental in the establishment of Richmond Fellowship, he led the way in a new way of thinking. This was a belief that we need to understand what has happened to people rather than ‘what is wrong with them’, that people can and do recover from mental distress and they can live meaningful and contributing lives in the community. We take it for granted now, but at the establishment of Richmond Fellowship, it took courage and conviction to challenge the thinking of the time.
This set of values is the foundation of this organisation and it lives on today. For this reason, John’s legacy lives on at Richmond Wellbeing and will do so for many years to come.
