WA-based mental health services provider Richmond Wellbeing can today announce that they have been selected to deliver the Bunbury Step Up Step Down (SUSD) Service. The service will likely commence in January 2020 and will provide an additional 10 beds for the south-west region.
Richmond Wellbeing would like to thank the WA Government and Minister Roger Cook for their ongoing commitment to funding these important services, especially in regional areas.
Richmond Wellbeing would additionally like to thank the Mental Health Commission for their leadership in funding the proposal.
The SUSD service aims to reduce the hospitalisation of individuals experiencing mental distress and to facilitate earlier discharge from the hospital.
SUSD services provide a place for individuals who don’t need to be admitted to hospital but need some additional support or services before they can return home. This adds to the continuum of service and provides the community, hospital and GPs with more options.
The Bunbury SUSD facility will also have staffing from Cyrenian House to ensure that Richmond Wellbeing can provide a holistic service.
Although the service is based in Bunbury, the catchment area includes much of the south-west. The SUSD facility will work closely with existing public mental health services in Busselton and Bunbury. Richmond Wellbeing looks forward to building on their existing partnership with this service.
The hospitals are critical for the adequate support of individuals experiencing mental distress, and the SUSD will alleviate pressure on these vital hospital services.
Richmond Wellbeing currently services the greater south-west region through a range of residential and community care options and has over 100 beds across the state. Richmond Wellbeing has been operating in WA since 1975.
