Carers WA and Richmond Wellbeing celebrate #FREEDOM in Perth Pride Parade
Taking to Perth streets in a sea of rainbows, Richmond Wellbeing and Carers WA are partnering up for the third year running to celebrate freedom and LGBTIQ rights as part of the 2017 PrideFest Pride Parade in Northbridge on Saturday 25th November 2017.
Staff, friends and supporters will be joining the crowds with a walking float, celebrating the freedom of all people to be who they are, without fear of retribution.
Over the past few years these leading health organisations have recognised the need to embrace diversity in response to the overwhelming evidence concerning the impact of exclusion and discrimination on the mental health and wellness of the LGBTIQ communities.
“Pride Parade celebrations aren’t just for those in the LGBTIQ community, but for all people who share a fundamental belief in the freedom to express yourself and the importance of acceptance,” said Richmond Wellbeing Chief Executive Officer, Neil Guard.
“We encourage all of Perth to join us in the Pride Parade and fly the colours of equality and acceptance” he continues.
#FREEDOM is the theme of this year’s PrideFest program which runs from the 27th October to 25th November. Carers WA’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Coates adds, “The focus in 2017 is on celebrating the freedom that the LGBTIQ community have in our country – to love, to live and to allow people to be open about who they are.”
“For me there is much to celebrate but we cannot afford to be complacent as the many vocalised negative opinions in relation to the marriage equality vote demonstrates. There is much to be done to ensure we have a truly compassionate, accepting and inclusive society. With this in mind Carers WA is a passionate supporter of the Pride Parade and, more generally, the movement to ensure equal rights for all sections of our wonderfully diverse society.”
The 2017 Pride Parade will run 8pm – 9pm, starting from the Court Hotel on Beaufort Street in Perth and travelling throughout the Northbridge area.
